Vision

Do you ever sit and think about your life? If so, what do you see? Do you think about current circumstances, past endeavors, or future happenings? What do you think of more? What is in your daily conversation with others? What’s you’re daily conversation with yourself? What is in your current line of vision?

I recently had a conversation with an old friend, and I came across a thought that a certain part my life has not developed to its best potential because I never envisioned myself at the “top” position. Other parts of my life have taken precedent in my daily thoughts, and I haven’t actually envisioned where I want to be or how I want to feel in this certain area of my life. With every other area, I thought of where I want to be and made plans to get there, whether the plans were executed to success or failure. So how can I expect an end result in this certain area that I give no thought to?

A great part of me that is romantic and believes that whatever is for me will come across my path at some point. And I do believe that all choices and circumstances have built my current perception (optimistic yet practical). But the logical part of me understands that all worthwhile achievements take planning and time to accomplish. If I have not envisioned myself in this position, I will not be able to even see when this opportunity crosses my path, much less take on the responsibility that comes with it (or the power and know how to hold onto it).

Life is about vision, followed by actionable steps. So I have started envisioning what it would feel like to be in this position. I think of ways to prepare being in this position. We often think of the benefits and don’t think of the sacrifice. My vision includes all of the above.

So envision what it is you want and how it would feel to achieve it. If it’s a position at work, what would that position’s workload entail? Build yourself to the point of knowledge and confidence, so that when you are given the opportunity, you will be able to take it on. Your vision is your own. Take sight, and execute.

Accountability

Life is a process that includes failing over and over again for the sake of learning how to live the best life we can. It is imagined that each of these choices lead us to a life that we intend. So ask yourself three questions:

  • At this point, am I living the life I intended?
  • Am I on the road to the life I envision for myself?
  • How much have I held myself accountable for the choices I have made in relation to the outcome of my life at this point?

This idea of accountability has been on my mind as of late. Honestly, I wrongly held it in judgment of another. Once I put into perspective that this person’s choices are personal and should only be judged by this person, and can only be changed by this person, I directed this critical lens to myself. I asked myself those same questions and came to the conclusion that I am too often careless with my thoughts, too often careless in my words, and too often careless in my actions. I need to be more intentional in my every day life.

I came to this conclusion with full understanding of how blessed I am and have been. Many tangible blessings came over the past few years, with conscious thought and direction of spirit and action. Others came by seeming happenstance. And I say seeming, because I believe that we all manifest things, people, and circumstances into our lives. Even if we are not conscious of how we called them into our lives, they are put here to teach us about ourselves in relation to the world and to expose us to the world as a whole. It is our job to learn and apply as necessary.

So, how do you view life? Your vision, your ethics, your ambition, etc., are all tools you develop and strengthen throughout life. Do you let things, people and circumstances sharpen those tools to or do you shift your direction and let them control your actions negatively?

We are all blessed with talents and many of us acquire special skills. To acquire our goals, we must direct these talents and acquired knowledge to make choices that positively influence us and those around us in a positive way. When we hold ourselves accountable for our lives and choices, we are able to make the necessary changes to our thoughts and outer worlds to better fit our vision.

Accountability starts with the way we see our lives, continues with how much we believe we have an influence over our lives, and ends with the actions we take within our lives. Make each thought, feeling and action count.

I wrote a poem yesterday (11/11/2017), inspired by this topic, and it is featured on the “Poetry” page (link above).

Expect more poetry in the future, but if you want to read new poetry daily, follow me on any one of my social media pages.

Learning to Dream

Does that make sense?  Somewhere along the line, I believe many of us unlearn how to really dream.  We unlearn how to believe without boundaries and learn how to differentiate dream from reality to the point that we don’t really realize how interconnected our lives are with our dreams, our imagination.  We get discouraged by the slightest thought of “reality,” where “no one gets what they want in life and most of us work hard just to survive.” We are about the duties of life and not how to make your life worthwhile; adult responsibilities are more important than finding and sustaining happiness. But, everyone deserves to be happy. And how can we teach that to another generation this if we don’t know how to just be happy. First we must relearn what we’ve lost and reach what we once thought was attainable.

I thought that knowing how to dream is something that we just knew how to do.  That it’s something we carry on from childhood.  A skill.  But like any skill, dreaming has to be practiced regularly to be sustained and improved. I don’t think that many people I know remember how to do that. I’m not talking about falling asleep at night and subconsciously forming pictures in your mind (though many people don’t even remember their night dreams…coincidence?). I’m talking about stretching your imagination to the point where you thought you could honestly do anything.

I’ve just realized that what we learn as adults replaces what we know intrinsically as children. But this shouldn’t be. When we learn must add all of these skills onto our mental library and develop them with time.

Try to remember what you once believed the world to be and be it. We mustn’t give up on achieving the impossible. It’s in these moments we find magic. We find out things about ourselves that we didn’t know or that we forgot. It may be difficult at times, but we will find happiness in those moments where our beliefs become reality. I am relearning how to believe and there are setbacks, but I always come back to my dream.

Now, I’m not suggesting you quit your job and leave your family behind, but using the talents we all were blessed with (yes you have a talent/talents) to utilize to bring about quality to our lives and the lives of those around us. Even if we use them in a small way. It is in those connections (with yourself and others) and with those gifts, that we reconnect with our dreams. And I know I sound like a broken record, but it all comes down to L. O. V. E.

Love what you do. Love who you are. Love where you’re going. Love what your past has taught you. Because as I heard at a fitness convention last year, “everything you are in this moment is a culmination of all that you have done.”

So with that logic, everything you can be starts from this moment you’re in and will build day by day by all that you do. Start your dream today; right now, in this moment by believing it’s a reality that can be attained. And remember…Love inspires all things, so inspire Love.

Completion Through Love

My vision
My soul-mate
I was made whole
But completion is what I sought
In you
In me
The charge behind my passions
The comfort in my holds
Released within your arms
The world, a fog beyond my grasp
We will create
We will inspire
Seeing everything and nothing beyond our world
Together
We have so much to do
Cultivate
Build
To inspire within each other what we want to see in the world
The challenge and privilege of Love
Of THIS Love
We are the seed
We are just a branch of a tree
Just the stem to a leaf
We were made whole
But we sought completion
The balance we craved and seeked blindly was in the other
Heart to Heart
Mind to Mind
Soul to Soul

Forgive

Cliche, I know. But with the “whole new year, new me” slogan that goes around about this time, I thought forgiveness was a proper topic to speak on. They say that when you forgive you free yourself from the poisionous burden of hate, resentment, anger… etc. So the new year is one of the best times to take all the baggage you’ve accumulated and start 2014 off “light.”

Now, when I talk about forgiveness, I’m not just talking about forgiving your parents or your boyfriend/girlfriend. I’m also talking about forgiving yourself. We don’t always achieve our given goal on the first, second or third try. We don’t always stay focused on every single goal we’ve set your sights on. And we are often harder on ourselves than others. We are more willing and quicker to give others another chance than we are for ourselves. It may just be because we tend to pay more attention to what others have intentionally/unintentionally done to us than what we do to ourselves unintentionally. It’s more tangible in a way. But when we let ourselves down we must be conscious and not lose hope or Faith in our potential for growth and greatness. We are so flawed in our humanity in many aspects, but in others we are magnificent creators. I’ve always said (since this year), Love inspires all things, so inspire Love.© So keep Faith in Love.

Now, I say not to lose Faith, but who am I kidding? This is the goal, but sometimes we do. So what must we do when we feel as though we’ve lost Faith in ourself and/or progression? Restore Faith! If you have let yourself down, do something to lift your spirits. Acheive something! Prove to yourself that you can still accomplish so much. If you’ve let someone else down, preform a grand gesture to initiate Faith and let that person know that he/she can still count on you. Reliability is a cornerstone of any of relationship so to forgive yourself/another and to be forgiven is no easy feat. But one can with hard work, time and an open heart and mind. And what better way to face 2014 than with an open heart and mind?

Blessings everyone. Be safe.

And remember… Love inspires all things, so inspire Love.© ♥

Know Thyself

A million apologies to those loyal who read “Words and Perceptions…” and have been waiting for another post. To say the least, this past month has been a wonderfully surprising and filled with all the lovely things that life has to offer. A CHANGE HAS COME! And I give full credit to the power of positivity. Through reflection and pushing past fears to achieve goals set forth, I was able to take steps upward and outward. Though there is still much to do, by acknowledging my power, I was able to move forward towards goals that I set months ago.

So many of us move through life not truly knowing or understanding the power we have within us to achieve tremendous goals and live the life we want. We struggle, but many of us give up before the breakthrough. So we continue living life in a stagnant phase. The greatest thing I could had done for myself was analyzing my past and identifying my strengths, weaknesses and fears. I even went as far as identifying where some of these fears stemmed from. By doing this I was able to convince myself to move forward towards completing what I wanted to achieve, with what I knew about myself. I continually told myself that anything is possible to work through/ to, once I’m 100% honest with my limitations at that specific time. Through being honest with myself, I was able to work past those limitations.

You can be ever-evolving, if you want to be. And it is only through knowing who you are and what you want to be that you can achieve things you probably didn’t think you could a year ago, a month ago or a week ago. You must not listen to naysayers, even if one of those naysayers is you. Know thyself. Know if you are the thing that’s holding you back from being great. Know if you’re the reason you have yet to find true love. Know if you’re the reason you have not been able to make a positive impact in the world.
Knowledge is power. Knowledge of self is the key to vision! Open your eyes and mind to the universe!

“…know thyself … and thou shalt know the gods.”

You keep telling me that what I want is too big
You keep telling me that the words won’t come
There’s a stifling grip around my spirit, but still I fix my gaze
It doesn’t matter where I stand at this very moment or what I currently hold in my hand
My mind’s eye is set on site
And my heart’s open
There’s so much that I want
And it is only now that I have the courage to admit it
So I’m learning how to give to receive
I’m learning how to whole-heartedly believe, though things come slowly
Conscious of my hold, so as not to slip with my passionate grip
Because overbearing strength is not always the way
Feminine finesse and faithful patience are still acquiring traits
But as long as my hands can write
And as long and my heart can feel
I will write of love and dreams beyond loss
And I will write life and love into my dreams
Goals set forth, bearings implanted in my character and creativity
Reminding myself to no longer take for granted the queen in me
Still molding myself and my mind
So much more revealed in my constant kneading
And I am better than before
I am smarter than before
I love better than before
And all that I am is the foundation to all that will be

Evolution!

I fully believe that keeping a positive outlook will help manifest positivity within your life. But things change in our life situations daily that are not under our control (especially due to the variable of other people). I used to shun change because of the feeling of powerlessness to change.  But I realize that I must embrace change to get where I’m trying to go. Logically, if I want to go anywhere there must be change. So I’ve come to terms with its inevitablity and realized that with the goals I’ve set, how I deal with change is what will reveal my true character and it’s strength, which will ultimately determine my success.

A recent conversation with a friend brought about thoughts on value of self, the value of our work and the opportunities we are given to grow. With trying to attain something he’s wanted for such a long time, he faced an opportunity to “get his foot in the door.” It was a starting point to work in his field, within a different industry. However, the terms that were given for his contract made him question as to whether taking this opportunity was bending to the point where he was devaluing his work and how far he has come and grown with his talent. This was another lesson on change for me.

We have to constantly be aware of how far we have come and of our current situation in order to further our vision and path.  Though situations and relationships, just as we tend to change over time, it is very important that we always choose to EVOLVE.  To evolve is to change for the better.  It is to grow more powerful in our own right with experience and time, along with consistent, conscious, positive thought. Yes, we me must adjust and bend at times to attain what it is we want, but we must always be forward-thinking. We must evolve and build upon that knowledge of how we’ve evolved within change. We must be conscious of how far we bend and compromise so as not to break or destroy any part of the foundation we have already built. We must remember that our self-image, self-worth and values are our foundation. And that though change is inevitable, we can only evolve if we make a conscious decision as to how we change. We must build on the groundwork we’ve planted all our lives. If today is the first day you lay a brick, it’s a starting point. Move forward from here. Evolve.

Perseverance

Anyone who knows me knows that my biggest issue with writing is finishing.  Poems, stories, songs…any form you can name. Too many times I’ve stop writing and moved onto a different piece.  It is said that the only way to succeed in life is to persevere.  A piece of art is like a piece of life.  Throughout it’s creation there are ups and downs; moments when you’re totally inspired and moments when you have to force the words on the page.  It’s when you hit those low moments that you have to push through and continue writing. If you persevere through those moments, you will create something magnificent.

I love to write.  With the few stories and many poems I’ve finished, not only was it satisfying to write and complete a piece, but it was reworking and editing that gave me fulfillment.  I’ve lost many of them since, due to technological malfunctions (my heart is still a bit broken) and a time after then, I couldn’t write.  But I am a writer.  It’s even gratifying to edit and preview this blog repeatedly until it says just what I want it to say.  I write to produce pieces that I can go back to and re-read and still find Truth in it.  And though I’ve never really stopped writing since I was 8, I can’t say I’ve ever truly pursued it.  Because of this, I haven’t gotten very far with writing.  But I will not let that stop me from my current goal.  I’ve chosen to persevere.  I am a writer.

Regardless of what it is that you want to accomplish, as long as there is passion and Love, it will shine through in the end result in spite of the difficulties you faced throughout.  Maybe you’ve pursued things to this point that are worthy of you, and maybe you haven’t; but it’s never to late to go after what it is that you truly want.  Once you figure out what that is, make the changes needed to accomplish your goals/ dreams.

We live in a world where we are taught to be “realistic” and advised to be practical with choosing what it is that we want in our lives.  There are moments when you may be discouraged.  It is natural.  But you must remember to keep moving.  Sometimes you may have to go back to the beginning and start from the ground up.  Regardless of how often you falter, you must never give up!  Perseverance is the key success!

They say the way you do one thing in life is the way you do everything in life.  So decide…

Allowing Ourselves the Freedom to Desire

Many may not have taken the time out to think of what it is that truly makes them happy.  Some may even think that they don’t deserve what it is they want or that they don’t have what it takes to reach a set goal.  Others may not want to truly admit what it is that they desire for fear of judgment or fear that they will never get what they want. But making such an admission gives a sort of freedom within a world of many restrictions.  I think Bob Marley said it best when he said “emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds.”  Of course he was speaking to a specific demographic about specific issues, but our minds are the keys to achieve all that we desire.  There are no limits, except for the limits we give ourselves.

An inhibition is “something that forbids, debars, or restricts.”  “An inner impediment to free activity, expression, or functioning as a mental process imposing restraint upon behavior or another mental process (as a desire).”  It is a figment of our imagination.  Where and how do we develop these inhibitions? How can we break free to get what it is that we truly desire?  Once we take the time out to decide what it is that we want out of life and dedicate ourselves to achieving that goal, nothing will stand in our way.  A desire fueled by enough passion and dedication will allow one to enjoy the  journey just as much as the destination.

So do yourself a favor and ask yourself “what is it that I truly desire?”  You may be surprised by what you can actually get.
